Unions Call December Port Strike
The Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT), a major union representing port and dock workers, have called for a 48-hour strike at French ports on December 9 and 10, 2024.
The negotiations over pay, pension reform, and asbestos risks, have been at a standstill for many months, although several planned strikes, including a 24-hour stoppage in November were suspended.
However, a government decision that it would not reopen negotiations over the issues has reignited the conflict and the CGT refused to take part in a meeting scheduled for November 21, leading to the call for industrial action in December. To date, the 1.1% increase to wages proposed by employer’s has been completely rejected.
Neer Service will keep partners updated on the impact of the strike.
