Remember the following
Reading the information contained in this application form will greatly assist you in understanding the Extended Protection Program and in determining the amount of protection you should purchase for the transit of your household goods.
- Items not declared and valued are not protected.
- Take into consideration what your items will be worth at your new residence, not what they’re worth before they’re shipped.
- If you’re shipping a car, don’t use it as a shipping container. The car can be damaged by items shipped in it.
- Underwriters cannot accept liability for missing items not noted on delivery inventories at destination. Exceptions for missing items and cartons must be taken at delivery and recorded on the delivery documents. Additionally, you should note any obvious damage such as opened, damaged or re-taped cartons that may explain why an item would be missing from a carton. Claims for missing items will not be considered unless these exceptions are noted. Please note it is your responsibility to check-off the shipment when it arrives; failure to do so will prohibit any claim for missing items.
- Note the damaged or lost item and item number on the Packing Inventory or Inventory Control Form when you are checking-off your shipment.
- Do not remove packing stickers on damaged items until the damages are inspected.
- Do not attempt to repair your damaged items. Insurers will not consider claims for damaged items that have been repaired (actual or attempted) prior to an inspection. This includes opening and inspecting computers or other electronics.
- Do NOT discard damaged items. Insurers will not consider claims for damaged items that are not available for inspection. You are required to retain damaged items until your claim is settled.
- DO NOT LET MOVERS DISCARD YOUR ITEMS. IF AN ITEM IS DELIVERED TO YOUR RESIDENCE AND IS DETERMINED TO BE UNSAFE PLEASE FOLLOW THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES LISTED LATER IN THIS DOCUMENT.
- Do not remove items from the delivery address to another location or storage unit prior to inspection.
- Notify your Move Coordinator in the case of missing items so that a trace may be initiated if necessary.
- Claims for items placed into a self-storage facility cannot be submitted to Insurers unless exceptions were made on the carrier’s delivery inventory upon delivery into the storage facility.
We hope you have a successful move without any damage. However, if you have problems, we’ll work with you to get your problems resolved promptly and equitably.
