Impact of Port Strike

As reported last month, unions representing port workers have embarked upon a month-long series of work stoppages that are resulting in minor delays.

Port employees are currently stopping work for 4 hours on 15 separate dates until the end of June with three full days of work stoppages on June 13, June 21, and June 25.

So far, the industrial action has not resulted in major disruption but we are experiencing more difficulties in making appointments to pick up containers from the Port of Le Havre and delays in collecting the containers.

We will continue to keep you updated.

President Calls Election

As you may have heard on international news sources, President Emmanuel Macron this week dissolved the country’s government and called a “snap” general election.

After his party suffered defeat in European elections on Sunday, President Macron announced that an election for seats in the National Assembly will take place on June 30 and July 7. The uncertainty resulted in the Euro falling to its weakest position against the US dollar in a month with shares in top French banks falling significantly.

The election will test the Macron governments’ reforms of pensions, labor laws, and the welfare system, against increased economic nationalism promoted by the main opposition party.
